I have a virtual kitty named Nyssa

I've acquired a virtual kitty I've named Nyssa (Classic Doctor Who and Arrow). Volunteering with the Humane Society and having a virtual pet are great options for me as there are logistical hurdles around having a real cat right now.

*Edit -- LJ is being twitchy. I can't post a pic. She's a black cat. Real black cats don't get adopted often, because of idiotic superstitions.

Thanks. :) Here's the site: http://www.foopets.com

There's a free tier and a paid tier. I'm using the free one, which I would do even if I had the money to spare. You wouldn't believe the virtual environments and accessories that people are throwing away real money on. I mean it's awesome, but I'm not spending real money until I can have a real cat. Besides, if you earn and spend the fake currency (by caring for your pets) wisely, you can get cool stuff on the free their too.

Oh, I can believe. XD I mean, people do it in every game, haha! I'm like you, I'd rather do it the harder (and cheaper) way. XD

I'm surprised – black cats are considered 'lucky' here in Britain.
If I ever have the opportunity to have a cat, I'd like a black one and call it Begemot (Behemoth) after the super-cool, cigar-smoking, vodka-swigging, gun-toting demon cat in Bulgakov's Master i Margarita. Best cat in literature: he has a gun-battle with detectives while swinging from a chandelier.

I knew I wasn't an anglophile for nothing. :)

Wow! I've never heard of him. He sounds like Puss In Boots Meets Rambo. :)

He's a cat with Cattitude.
I recommend the novel: a fantasy/political satire of 1930s Moscow, also riffing on the Faust legend. There's a good translation by Hugh Aplin, whom I knew in St Andrews in the '80s. Begemot works for Professor Woland, who appears to be Mephistopheles/the Devil, but whom I suspect may also really be God, as any of the humans who come to harm at their hands generally merit it. There is a delightful Russian DVD series of it, which is available with subtitles.

Thanks. I'll check it out. Currently, I'm reading a digital compilation of Robert E. Howard's original Conan The Barbarian stories. Though, I'm taking a break from those right now to enjoy Christmas fare -- ETA Hoffmann's full story of The Nutcracker and the Mouse King (which is gutted in the albeit lovely ballet adaptations), Hans Christian Andersen's The Fir Tree (Thanks BBC Radio 4 Extra), etc. Halloween through Christmas is my favorite time of year. :)
